So, the other week I took a little break from social media as some of you may know. I did my best to try stay off Facebook,Twitter and Instagram and limited myself to just reading emails and the odd catch up on the bloggers group chat because those girls are the most supportive and wonderful gals ever, I salute you! I didn’t go full on cold turkey from social media but I definitely wasn’t on my phone for most of the day and I felt so much better for it. I somehow forgot there was a real world out there, I was constantly on my phone, not taking time to just sit down and enjoy a chat with my dad and I wasn’t putting my full concentration into anything. Soon as I woke up I would reach for my phone straight away and spend ages on it scrolling through Instagram and replying to comments. Being a blogger means you do need to be pretty much on the go with social media and posting regularly but I got a little too caught up in it all and started to feel very negative. I also found myself stressing and comparing myself to other bloggers a lot. I was questioning myself, why am I putting all my hard work into nothing and working for free? Why do I not have as many followers and engagement as this blogger when I’m working just as hard? Why does it feel like I’m getting nowhere? Why are all these other bloggers getting to do fun things and travel etc? These may seem like ridiculous questions to some but this was how I was feeling when I was spending too much time on Instagram comparing myself to other bloggers. Obviously, after my little social media break my brain was feeling refreshed and the reality is, is that everything is not how it seems on Instagram. No matter how many followers you have, how many times you go on holiday and all those pictures of us smiling and having fun, it’s not reality! Everything on Instagram is sugar-coated, no one has the perfect life, the perfect job or the perfect face, so next time you find yourself comparing, take a step back and realise it’s not all what it seems. We are all human.
Hello alllll, hope you’re well. I’m currently hiding away in my favourite cafe (probs not the best place to hide haha) writing up some blog posts for you. I’m having one of them days where any socialising, communicating and talking is a no from me. I’ve got my builders brew, the tunes are on and I’m all by myself and pretty content about it, all I need now is a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign and my cat . January has been so cold and there’s no sign of warmer weather anytime soon. To be honest, all I can think about is that chicken broth waiting for me at home mmmm!
Hello little Christmas sprouts! Hope you all enjoyed the last couple of days spent with the family and boozing a lil too much. If your tummies aren’t looking like a pregnant women’s, did you even celebrate Christmas? I’m currently eating the last bit of ice cream left over from Christmas, I just can’t stop!
I can’t tell if I was trying to resemble a bit of Harry Potter here with the mustard and purple combo and those round glasses or if I was embracing my inner geek? Definitely the geek. I’m gonna let you in on a little secret here… YES I DO SOMETIMES STAY IN ON A WEEKEND TO SIT AND PLAY ON MY NINTENDO DS GAMES WITH MY CAT BESIDE ME AND YES I DO LOVE TO DO CROSSWORDS! Phew, glad to get that off my chest. We can’t always make the effort to look cool and spend money on gigs, cigarettes and booze! At 21 years of age, I’m pretty content with searching Ebay for new DS games and I’m really not sorry if I’ve let you down.
If you’re a trend follower of Gucci, you will know that they brought back the geek chic trend. Huge pussy bows, vibrant colours, big framed glasses and prints that your grandma would have probably had on her curtains back in the 70’s. What I love about the geek trend is that you can express your personality with it as much as you want. You can wear your favourite hat, dress, shoes, blouse, and socks all at once! Plus in the end, youre going to end up watching that popular girl you hate fall to her knees in tears because her boyfriend (the fittest boy in college) has chosen to take you to the prom instead. GO GEEKS!
Good Morning you lot! I thought I would write-up a little morning blog post for you whilst I’m chilling with a cuppa. So, we all know the second Alexa Chung collection came out not so long ago and I thought I would treat myself this time around. I bought two lovely pieces from the collection, one being this shirt and The Lovell Blouse which I’ll be doing a post on also! The Albion shirt was the one that caught my eye first. The Oriental print is seen everywhere this season and I can’t resist those satin blossom prints, oh so dreamy. I really like the classiness of Oriental prints and I think they can look very elegant when worn correctly.
Lets be honest, embroidery has been around for a while and it was pretty popular in the 70’s and 80’s when girls would wear embroidery on their denim jeans/jacket and the mods and rockers would spice up their leather and parkas with embroidery patches. Early 2015 we saw embroidery back on the catwalk looking better than ever. From long floral boho dresses to bomber jackets covered in dreamy stitching. Many designers such as Chloe, Gucci, and Alexander McQueen hopped on the embroidery trend and now its seen everywhere! Not just on runway models but celebrities, fashion bloggers and everyday people are rockin’ this look.
Ello, guess what!? I got my domain finally! It’s changed slightly because Style By Starr was sadly stolen as mentioned in a previous post (still not over that) but hey ho. I wanted to buy my domain name because I had a big think about my blog and realised it’s something I definitely want to focus on whilst I take a year out from uni. Yes, another thing that’s happened in the week of Starr Clare. I started my first year at uni in September but got ill with tonsillitis AGAIN which has been coming back until this date! I will eventually be having those bad boys out. So yeah, I had missed out on so much work already and couldn’t afford to miss out on anymore. I had missed freshers week and moved into my flat a month late so I didn’t find it as easy to settle in as others. Another reason that made me think twice about uni is that I felt like I needed to go just because I thought that’s what everybody does in life, go to school, college, university and then work. But I’ve realised that people can be successful without going to uni. So hopefully this year will give me the time to focus on my blog, get myself better and think about whether I want to start fresh at uni again next September.
Enough with the rambling! Lets talk about the outfit. As we all know, it’s now festive season and it only feels like last week when I was dancing around at festivals with my little sun burnt nose. I’m not mad on Christmas and I’m one of those people who get really annoyed at seeing Christmas decorations early November. However, I do love the trends that come with this time of the year, that being metallics and velvet! Velvet is a favourite all year round for me, even if it’s just a delicate choker. Metallics are a must have for the festive season because I think it brings us that comfort christmassy party feel.
Top – Nobodys Child | Jeans – Primark | Choker – Depop | Boots – Primark
Today I’ve paired velvet and metallic together but still kept it subtle by breaking them up with a pair of baby blue cropped jeans which i’ve featured in a previous post (still can’t believe they are Primark). Speaking of Primark… these silver dreamboats were only £12!! I repeat £12!! and the quality of them are so good. If I saw someone wearing them I’d never of thought that they were from Primark. I’m well happy with Primark’s game at the minute and for those who have me on Instagram can probably tell ha! For those who have me on instagram will have also noticed I’ve not had this pink velvet peplum cami off! Apart from this top making me look like I have funny nips at times it’s definitely one of my favourite pieces I own. The colour, texture and style of it is just a dream. The top is so easy to style, you can throw it on top of a plain T or wear it on its own with a mini skirt or flares. The top is from Nobodys Child, a lovely brand I spoke about in my last post (you can find it here) and be sure to check out the rest of their website for festive dreaminess.
Ello, hope you all had a fab Halloween! Who’s eating the left over trick or treaters sweets because I am definitely am haha. Todays post is a little collaboration post with Nobody’s Child. Nobody’s Child is London based brand that has the latest trends at affordable prices. I had never heard of this brand before until they contacted me about sending me some goodies and I’m so glad they did! When I went onto the website I instantly fell in love, there was too many beautiful things to pick from. I had to send the links of different items back to them so they could help me choose oops! On the website you can find anything from metallic playsuits to velvet dresses, floral culottes to star print blouses and satin camis to a plain grey T. You want it they’ve got it.
Two of the pieces I got my hands on were this black mini pinafore and roll neck top which the colours are so lovely on! They both go really well together as styled on the website. The coloured roll neck gives the all back outfit a pop of colour and cosiness but still leaves the black pinafore to do the talking.
Roll Neck – Nobody’s Child | Pinafore – Nobody’s Child | Bag – Primark | Shoes – Dr Martens
To keep the outfit’s simplicity I threw on some tights, mini bag and those good ol’ Dr Martens!
See you on next one
