Almost two years ago, my creativity and motivation had diminished into thin air. I had finished college, I was jobless and I was in the early stages of a breakup. I had all the time in the world in my tiny little hands with nothing to put that time into. I then worked in retail and then in a night club for (approx 3 weeks lol) but standing outside in the freezing cold handing out flyers and  being chatted up by drunk teens DEFINITELY WASN’T FOR ME. I wanted to do something that excites and motivates me, I wanted to do something that makes it worth getting up in the morning rather than dossing about all day and that’s what finally drove me to create this page which pretty much now holds my whole life.

TROUSERS – THE WHITE PEPPER (SIMILAR)

It started off with me blabbing on about vintage clothes and how I liked to style them but then It kind of gradually progressed into more of a diary/lifestyle blog. I think I was trying to turn my negative energy into something positive whilst trying to help others too. I would sit down and write how I was feeling/what I was thinking on that day and it would instantly take the weight off my shoulders. I kind of saw my blog as time out or some kind of therapy I guess. Then to watch my blog and Instagram grow rapidly over the next year was crazy. My life went from staying at home most of the time to being busy pretty much everyday and meeting so may fabulous people who I can call my friends today.

BOOTS – MANGO (SIMILAR) // SUNGLASSES – ASOS

I remember writing the posts about Living And Growing Up on A Council Estate and Relationships, Anxieties, Heartbreaks And Finally Becoming Content By Myself which definitely gave my blog a boost of visitors over night! I remember my phone going off every two minutes with tweets, emails and messages from people all around the world, messaging me to say how my post had brought them to tears or that I helped them through a difficult time and that’s when I knew blogging was something I wanted to do.

But blogging hasn’t just changed my life it’s changed my wardrobe and the way I look at fashion too. I’ve experimented with colour and style and I now have the confidence to wear things I would of never even dared wearing out of the house two years ago! Who cares if I got my colour palette inspiration from Bella in The Tweenies for this outfit, I think it looks pretty good and I feel confident wearing it. I don’t like to be put into one style category, I love experimenting with styles, shapes and colours and blogging has definitely gave me the confidence to do that.

University starts on Monday and as excited as I am, I’m pretty damn nervous. It took me a whole year to decide whether I wanted to go back or not and I was still having doubts up until last week! I weighed the pros and cons and decided to go for it. My only one big worry is that I don’t know how I’ll manage my blog…

I want to start off this post by thanking Beara Beara for two reasons. 1. For sending me one of the most beautiful bags I’ve ever received throughout my blogging career and 2. For rekindling my love for vintage. Beara Beara are a brand based in London who design beautiful vintage inspired leather bags, they are then handcrafted by an ever so talented craftsmen in Bolivia! The bags are made by using robust natural leather and you can see that a lot of time, dedication and passion has gone into creating these unique bags.

You guys know I’m a sucker for backpacks so when I saw the Beara Beara Alex backpack I knew it just had to be mine. The bag is so spacious but still looks incredibly stylish, it will definitely come in handy for university when I need to carry my books around! Everything about the backpack I love! the shape, the colour, the smell of the leather, the lined tartan inside and the cutest little key that comes with it so you can lock and unlock the backpack! and if that isn’t enough, it’s even embedded with my initials, it really is a special little bag. I can’t wait to see this bag get better with age and I can already see that it’s going to last me a life time! P.s you can get 15% one week discount using my code ‘stylewithstarr’

Q: What is your favourite item of clothing ever?

A: It would have to be my vintage velvet floral 1950’s dress! Someone who was a big part of my life at the time bought it for me on my birthday and it’s the most gorgeous dress ever! It’s something I would only wear on special occasions.

Q: What is your ideal writing environment?

A: In bed pls. haha no, let’s be realistic here! Either at my home desk with a brew or in a quiet cafe somewhere.

Q: What is your skin care routine?

A: For a very long time I didn’t have a proper skin care routine but now I feel like I’ve got my shit together and my skin is thanking me for it. I make sure I always take my make up off before bed, cleanse, tone and moisturise. I only exfoliate once a week as my skin is on the sensitive and I use glycolic acid products which I highly recommend! Glycolic acid helps with acne, fine lines, sun damage, uneven texture, oiliness and gets rid of dead skin cells to reveal brighter and smoother skin.

Q: How would you describe your personal style?

A: This is always a hard question for me because I don’t have a personal style, my style can change from day-to-day. I actually written a post all about not having a personal style, you can read it here.

Take time yourself

A few days ago I had a bit of a crazy moment. I shut down my laptop, turned off my phone and cried. I couldn’t even watch the TV! Social media had got too much for me and on top of everything else it really took it’s toll on my anxiety. I had forgotten the last time I had took some time out for myself to just go for a walk or read a book, I was constantly on my phone replying to emails, catching up on Instagram, over working on my laptop as well as trying to reply to every single message right away. Now that’s not healthy. I began to miss deadlines for collaborations and for us bloggers this means missing out on money and having to explain yourself too, ANOTHER thing I had to worry about. I was getting very little sleep because I would stay up working until the early hours and then because I was looking at blue light for so long my brain was tricked into thinking it was day time. I would then put something on Netflix until I eventually would fall asleep to waking up feeling like I had been on a 5 day bender in Ibiza!! (maybe a little exaggeration but I sure felt that way haha)

My number one tip for cleaning out your wardrobe

FASHION

Hello, It’s me! I had been a little behind on my blog lately but I’m back with lots of new ideas and content to share with ya! So, today is all about cleaning out that wardrobe and letting go of those jeans you’ve probably had since being 18 years old. Little exaggeration? uh no, you’d be surprised how many of us keep useless items of clothing for so many years. Being a fashion blogger with no actual ‘personal style’ means my wardrobe can get a little out of hand sometimes, my rail was ready to collapse last week but my dad came to save the day just in time. I have no more room on my rail whatsoever, so a lot of my clothes get put in a spare room now which my dad is NOT happy about. He’s always confused to why I have so many clothes and why I cling on to things I never actually wear no more. I’ve always been emotionally attached to clothes, is that weird? probably. I find it so hard to get rid of clothes when they have made amazing memories with me, been to places with me, made me look sassy when going through breakups, helped me experiment with style and most important of all, covered up my naked body. Its kind of like a baby’s blanket.

Introvert is the new extrovert – Being successful in your job when you’re not good at speaking up

FASHION, LIFESTYLE

introvert: noun –a shy, reticent person.

thumbnail_FullSizeRender

So last week I read an article in Glamour magazine which really hit home for me. It was all about introverts and how we are becoming more popular. I was always the quiet one at school who hated sitting in the dinner hall because it was too noisy and over crowded! I never really enjoyed big social events and found them really exhausting and I hated being put on the spot which was a common thing in school because teachers seem to like picking on the quiet ones… like if I wanted to give my opinion I would have put my hand up right? Most of the time I get my energy from being on my own and doing my own thing, Sometimes I like to go to a cafe for a brew on my own, which is now being accepted when it was once frowned upon with the whole ‘loner’ thing. I’ll hang out with friends when I feel like I want to, rather than force myself out into every social gathering there is. In social situations I like to sit and listen to the other person rather than have quick pointless chit-chat and there is something I kinda like about awkward silences, they make us human!

How to stay inspired

FASHION, LIFESTYLE

thumbnail_IMG_9532thumbnail_IMG_9541thumbnail_IMG_9547

Hey hey! I thought I would write-up a quick post for you today on how I stay inspired and hopefully it may help you to stay inspired too. A few weeks ago I was ill, I couldn’t go out the house much so I was basically either in a hospital bed or in my own bed/couch. I started to feel really shitty about myself and my blog. I wasn’t able to get any posts written up because I couldn’t go out and get photo shoots done and I was surrounded by either my own home or nurses and other people who were ill. Don’t get me wrong I’m always truly inspired and amazed by nurses and doctors and what they do for us but I couldn’t help but stare down at my snot green hospital socks whilst hooked to a drip and think ‘I NEED SOME INSPIRATION, I AM GOING INSANE!’

Hello you! how are ya? I’ve been working on something with Accessorize and I’m so excited to let you in on what I’ve got up to. So last week the lovely team at Accessorize invited me into their new refurbished shop in the Manchester Arndale to view their also brand new collection ‘Eclectic Bloom’. The shop actually reminds me of one of those stores that you find abroad that sells all the beautiful jewellery and scarves, it has a lovely layout of perfectly stored pieces and the perfect lighting.

Making the decision to become a pescetarian

LIFESTYLE

So, I’ve decided to become a pescetarian! purely because of 2 reasons! 1. I wanted to take on a new challenge and 2. Because I watched the video to The Smiths – Meat Is Murder and I never want to eat meat again. The way some of them treat animals is speechless. I had no words but only tears for those poor animals. I always had an idea what happened to those animals but I always shoved it to the back of my mind and never really thought about it when I was eating meat. I know pescetarian isn’t the same as vegetarian and I know fish are basically animals too but I’m not ready to take on the full vegetarian challenge just yet. Fish is one of the things that I eat quite a lot as it gives me the vitamins and omega 3 I need which I don’t get from my awful diet.
